i have researched ten by ten on the united nations website and free the children and found out a little bit more info on it. Here is some of it: ten by ten is basically ten commitments, ten goals, ten actions, and ten dollars all put together to make a change for the better. Zoe
ReplyDelete12 208 people have signed up already.

ReplyDeleteSchool Commitments
1. Turn off lights
2. Drink water from a reusable water bottle
3. Hug, hug, hug

5. Give a donation on someone’s behalf
6. Read about a new social issue
The Importance of Ten by Ten
In the year 2010 free the children wants to strive for a big global change. Go to giveyourten.com to set ten commitments for the New-year. Free the children will donate $10.00 on your behalf to a village over seas. Your donation will help provide clean water, shelter and education. All it takes is $10.00, ten commitments, 10 community hours now pass this on to 10 people.
Alexx and Zoe
Thank-You Alexx and Zoe I strongly agree, these small commitments can really make a difference, so this event is so inportant to the school :)
ReplyDeleteGIORGIA
How about we have a vote in the school to see what the other 4 commitments to make. We won't have alot of though so maybe not.
ReplyDeleteJulia
If everybody made a little paper of research or just knowledge that you already know we could bring it together and as a group put together a speech. Like or not like?
ReplyDeleteI also really like the 6 commitments you shared. Thanks :O
Anna
If each student donated $10 to the school community we could raise $3880 to move us closer to change. I find that really amazing. Lets incorperate that into our speech...yes or no?
ReplyDeleteanna :)
Anna, I like your idea.
ReplyDeleteZoe
Good job guys! Now, we need to implement our knowledge and our idea's. Starting in January i think we should start annoucments and posters. This will get people motivated and interested about this topic
ReplyDelete-giorgia
ReplyDeleteMaybe every person could make 2 annoucments and 1 poster design. That would be just enough to have the school start thinking about 10x10.
ReplyDeleteanna
I think we should use that thing where we say ten in ten different languages. Alexx
ReplyDeletewow i was looking at a lot of your comments and it seems like you guys are gonna do extremly well. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteChristine :>
I think that it is very important that we make ten by ten heard loud and clear so we should keep making it more and more bold.
ReplyDeletezoe
Do we want to tell the students to go on the computer at home or at school? Some kids don't have a computer. I was thinking may be each class can make and present ten goals for there class in general. Are we still doing the resulutions card contest? It was very good last year and I think we shoud still do it to add on with the 10 by 10 campaign.Alexx
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should use the cards to figure out the final 4 goals. Also ten in hebrew is esehr(S.hair)
ReplyDeleteJulia
How do you think we could incorparate the millenium developmental goals?
ReplyDeleteJulia
I think by putting the most relevent developmental goals on the posters we would be incorperating them. Zoe
ReplyDeletesounds awsome!. All the ideas seem great:)
ReplyDeleteanna
I like Zoe's idea, we should put posters up explaining each of our ten commitments. Alexx
ReplyDeleteHOW WE SEE THE TEN BY TEN CAMPAIGN LOOKING AT MCMURRICH?
ReplyDeleteWe can have all the classes make up ten goals for the new year and pick the ten most popular goals for the school. We think it should go on for 4-3 weeks. 1st- Introduce the campaign. 2nd- set the ten goals for the school (ask how they can set that goal. For example: Be more eco-friendly, you can that by using no plastic bottles.) 3rd- encouraging them to fulfill their goals Alexx & Julia r
All these ideas sound great. We could get a big 1 and 0 and paste it where the food drive sign use to be.Alexx
ReplyDeleteI like your suggestion Alexx but the food drive sign might still be up when we need to put the sign up.
ReplyDeletezoe
I like your idea Julia. Rememeber, we still should keep the new years resolution! We should come back to school after the break with an annoucment so they can write their cards during the week, and every morning we could go class to class to pick them up. I think a week is plenty of time. (mon-fri)
ReplyDeleteAnna
Good idea anna! i think during the holidays we should make posters and make up announcements so when we come right back, we are ready to start.
ReplyDeleteGiorgia
Great. Everyone please try to do 2 annoucments and 1 poster so we kick off the 10x10 right when we come back from the holidays.
ReplyDeleteAnna
Maybe if we are putting up the big 10 we should write all of the students names in Mcmurrich who signed up for 10X10.
ReplyDeleteJulia
Maybe on the giant 10 we could write the names of everyone who signed up for the 10byten.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think?
Julia
I like julia's idea. It is really creative. So we could get everybody's name from each class who signed up and then each week we will take it down and write all the names. Or we could put the ten up after we are done the campaign so everyone could see who did it. I think we should put like one phrase on each poster so they dont have to read that much. For example: Have you given your ten yet? and we should include the website.Alexx
ReplyDeleteHow about we give suggestions for the tenX10 campaign and use the other initiatives as examples.
ReplyDeleteJulia
Leaders on the 10 x 10 Campaign-as discussed on Friday's meeting please start composing a letter to be sent home next week.

ReplyDeleteAnna :)

It’s a new year and that means the BTC committee is ready to start a new initiative. The BTC committee is a group of 17 grade six students who believe that a small group of people can make a change. Over the past four months we have run two important and successful initiatives. On November 20th we ran the vow of silence which is when our school went silent for a day to symbolize children around the world who have no rights and no voice. We have also had the food drive, where our whole school worked together to collect cans of food for families who need help. The BTC group is all making people aware of local, national, and global crisis. We believe that every child should have a home, clean water, food, and an education. Did you know 218 million children have to work every day for many hours? It isn’t fair. The BTC committee will be starting the 10 by 10 campaign. You can change the world by just smiling at a stranger. We are children helping children.
ReplyDeletezoe julia is trying to say that we could invole the plastic waste campign. For example, We want a greener school for 2010.

The 10X10 campaign is all about making a change in 2010. At McMurrich we will be handing out cards for students to write down 10 personal achievable goals for a better 2010.We will pick a top 10 commitment cards that we think are meaningful. We also encourage students to go online at www.giveyour10.com and sign up for the 10X10 challenge. The challenge is to enter 10 personal achievable commitments, and because you did that $10 will be donated on your behalf to Free the Children. After that you do 10 hours of community service and lastly all you need to do is tell 10 people. There will be more details online. We believe we can make a difference in 2010.

Free the children is extremely important to participate in because you can learn and experience what people around the world go through every day. There are lots of things we could do to help or encourage these people that we are willing to make a change, but the truth is we don't anything. Free the children and the alternative income program are that one step further that we need. So give your ten at: giveyourten.ca and ten dollars will be donated on your behalf.

Letter to the school please review and comment
ReplyDeleteDear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
The Be the Change Student Committee (BTC) would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. As a student committee we have been planning our new initiative which will promote change within ourselves, our school and community. The BTC Committee consists of 18 grade six students who believe that a small group of people can make a change and difference. “We are children helping children.” Over the past four months we have successfully implemented two important and successful initiatives. On November 20th the school participated in the Vow of Silence and we went silent for a day to symbolize children around the world who have no rights and no voice. Our second school initiative was the Food Drive, and we worked together to collect cans of food for families in need in our local community. One of our goals is to raise awareness of local, national, and global issues. We believe that every child should have a home, clean water, food, and an education.
Did you know that 218 million children have to work every day for many hours? We believe that this is not fair.
The BTC Committee will be starting the 10X10 campaign to raise awareness and collect donations to support the Alternative Income Program and the relief efforts for Haiti.
The 10X10 campaign promotes a positive chain reaction within yourself and the community. By participating in the 10X10 campaign you will promote change in 2010. You can change the world by just smiling at a stranger. This will start a positive chain reaction that can lead to more change.
Here is how you can participate in the 10X10 Campaign. There are four parts to the campaign:
1. Each student will be given a card to record their 10 personal achievable goals for a better 2010. The BTC Student Committee will choose the top 10 commitment cards for the school that are creative and meaningful. Also register your 10 personal achievable goals and at www.giveyour10.com . By registering your 10 goals, $10 will be donated on your behalf to Free the Children
2. Donate $10 which will go to support the Alternative Income Program and the Relief Effects in Haiti which is supported by Free the Children and the TDSB. Attach $10 to the bottom portion of this letter. We would appreciate a $10 donation from each person or a $10 donation made as a family.
3. 10 hours of community service (ex. Reading to your sibling, cleaning up the school or local park, helping out in the community with a parent or at home, collecting food or clothing to donate)
4. Lastly, tell 10 people. Use the 10X10 information cards to give out to your neighbours, friends and family members or send an email to friends and family.
So please remember to participate in the 10X10 campaign and the Haiti relief fund. All commitment cards are due by Friday February 5th, 2010. Everyone is encouraged to participate in helping those in need and making a positive commitment in 2010.
Sincerely,
Be the Change Student Committee
I think the letter is good
