Research and discuss the Alternative Income Program that McMurrich is participating in this year.
* What is the importance of the AIP?
* How is it helpful to Sri Lanka in particular?

* How does the Water Sanitization Program support and/or relate to the AIP?

The importance of the Alternative Income Program is that it will reduce child labour and also supply them with resources.

I think that alternative income is when FTC sends money to unfortunate families like in Pakistan and Haiti and others they send them, money, dry food and water to drink. FTC also helps children get an education. FTC helped over 23,500 women.

Sonia you are correct it does help children get an education but how does the AIP help them to get an education.

I agree with christine, also the young children are not able to go to school just because they are forced to work and are engaged in child labour, they have no choice but to help and support their family, the alternative is starvation. When their parents can meet their basic income, they are able to remove their children from dangerous working conditions. AIP helps reduce child labour, increase school attendance rates, and also Improvng literacy rates. Jenny

According to the recent report by the Secretary General of the UN, at the next high level meeting they will be asking all the stakeholders to contribute to the meeting, ideas and thoughts on the devolpmental goals. Traditionally a wide range of governments woudl set aside money from their annual budgets for things such as this , but with the present economic struggles around the world. I think it would be a good idea to look for alternative funding or income to raise money. Such as asking for charitable organizations to elicit local funding. They could also start partnering with corporations to assist in finacial or other resources.

The AIP also gives money to women so that they can start their own business to support their families. Usually this gives families enough money to free their children from dangerous working conditions!

Alternative income helps families where children have to work and live up to probably $1.00-$2.00 per day. Plus they don't even get a chance to go to school because they're working all day!

The AIP program helps the people by sending like money that we right now are donating and they will be used for clothes, and other stuff. Once they have reached enough income by selling these, they are able to remove their children from dangerous working conditions. Jenny

ReplyDeleteI think the AIP helps children just like me get an education. Children in developing countries have to work to help and support there families. With the AIP it provides the families with an alternative income so there kids can go to school instead of working in a factory or on a farm ( supporting there families.)
